Ballantyne

Area Overview
Ballantyne, located in South Charlotte just north of the South Carolina border, is a prominent edge city and major commercial real estate hub. Spanning roughly 5,000 acres and originally founded in 1992, Ballantyne has evolved into one of Charlotte’s most significant office-based communities with over 4.4 million square feet of Class A office space across the Ballantyne Corporate Park.
Initially conceived as a corporate office park, Ballantyne is undergoing a transformational shift. Through the “Ballantyne Reimagined” initiative, Northwood Investors and partners are converting former office and golf course land into a walkable, mixed-use town center called The Bowl at Ballantyne, featuring retail, restaurants, entertainment, green spaces, and a 3,500‑seat amphitheater known as The Amp.
In retail, Ballantyne Village remains an established boutique‑style destination with both shopping and dining, while Wegmans plans to open its first Charlotte location on Ballantyne’s east side by late 2026, bringing significant regional draw.
The office market shows continued strength: Ballantyne Tower, a 260,958‑square‑foot Class A office building, was sold for $71.5 million in July 2025, signaling investor confidence in the submarket’s demand and stability.
Accessibility: I-485 & US-521/Johnston Rd; ~18–20 miles to Uptown Charlotte; ~9 miles to SouthPark.
Key employers: RXO (HQ); Brighthouse Financial (HQ); TIAA; Northwood Office (corporate); Sompo International.
